iTunes has reportedly stated that if they would have to increse their price of digital downloads because of music publishing wanting more royalties they would just pull the plug on itunes store period. The reason is because they would be taking a huge financial loss . itunes vice president Eddy Cue had this to say
"Apple has repeatedly made clear that it is in this business to make money, and would most likely not continue to operate iTS if it were no longer possible to do so profitably,"

I think Apple is making a smart move. It is the only reason artist and publishing companies are eveing seeing a profit in digital downloads. Things are about to get hectic ! Music publishing might back down on the increase in royalty fees after they realize they'd ultimatley be losing. The problem with these Music Publishing and record executives is they dont know how to sell the music anymore. I still buy cds..matter of fact i still buy records and its not because they are advertising it to me. Its because i support GOOD FUCKING MUSIC. Try selling talent and maybe people will go back to the stores. The feeling in music is not what it should be. As consumers we know we are a just apart of their statistics and we say FUCK EM. Free Music... I commend iTunes for trying to dig in and get there money while unwillingly really wanting to help the artists and the publishing. But what happens the percentage Publishing companies are making and therefore artists is not good enough ...so they want an increase. SO i tunes is basically saying FUCK Off your lucky your getting any.
Basically theres no choice but to start coming up with better ways to sell records or just focus on the other markets. Merchendise, concerts, etc... thats where the artists money really is anyways. But for these publishing companies they need to do something to.
